the content of a discussion between artist peers - when they live in different worlds. How much do they have in common, how much can they learn from each other? How much artistic distance can they bridge in the unknown divide of culture? Roy Petrie & Lianxi Zhang are finding out. Begun in China, where they met in 2014, the product of discourse to date featured in exhibitions in China in April, then in May in Glasgow. The discourse between them continued for the first time Zhang has travelled outside of China, during a month long residency at iota.

Roy Petrie is a Scottish artist based in Glasgow. This exhibition features a range of work from one of his principal on-going projects, which studies the writings of Herman Hesse and the implications of the Holocaust. The work is offered as a starting point for discussion on the legacy of the Holocaust. A discussion at iota on Tuesday 27th January – Holocaust Memorial Day – marks the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Petrie works in oil and acrylic paintings on stretched canvas and limited edition prints. Other on-going projects include research into the spiritual dimension of gardens and China, where he recently spent weeks visiting both the countryside and the major cities to accumulate material for major projects.
In direct response to this exhibition, there was a closing performance byFeargus Hetherington, violin, and Julia Lynch, piano.
